A Musicking-Centered Framework
Listeners to Collaborative Storytellers
Musicking—a verb popularized by musician and educator Christopher Small to encapsulate what it means “to music”— describes the act of making music together, including performing, listening to, rehearsing, or even just being present around music. In other words, musicking is not just about the final musical product, but about the relational, communal process of engaging with music.
We conceive of the Korean Art Song Cultural Bridge Project as an endeavor in “musicking.”
We believe that, through this shared musicking process, participants can co-create narratives of peace that are rooted in both memory and imagination, all by using Korean Art Songs as a medium for transnational dialogue and cultural exchange.
We empower both performers and participants to be collaborative storytellers who weave grand cultural narratives together, contributing to narrative transformation for a greater sense of community-building and peacebuilding.
